Mumbai-based designer Payal Singhal unveiled her SS’21 collection, almost on the heels of Covid-19 pandemic’s first anniversary, on March 12 with a photo essay on Instagram. Singhal named the collection ‘The New Normal’, focusing on the way forward rather than dwelling on the redundancy of monotony. “This collection is defined by the overarching mood of our times. We did not look far and wide for inspiration, but at what’s unfolding right in front of our eyes. We’ve used fashion as a tool to portray life as we now know it,” Singhal said in a press release. On offer are new iterations of Singhal’s popular designs: tiered dresses and kaftans, lehnga and dhoti pants, kurtas paired with palazzos and shararas, jackets, gilets and coord sets. The silhouettes flow freely with Kilim and Ikat prints dominating the designs on crepes and silks. The colour palette features pastel shades like dusty rose, mint and sorbet yellow. Generous glimpses of her signature appliqué work and muqaish embellishments peek through the celebrations. The collection is available to buy on Payal Singhal’s website.
