Welcome to the inaugural issue of PS Diary — a project of passion that I have been working on for a while now.

The world of contemporary Indian wear is still an evolving one. I often encounter women who are excited to wear our brand, but sometimes find themselves struggling for inspiration to make these unconventional looks their own. And therein was born the idea for this magazine—to make the transition of the Payal Singhal label from the runway to your wardrobes a more seamless one.

This is my way of giving you, our patrons, a comprehensive view into our brand. I wanted this to be a keepsake-cum-fashion glossary for patrons and students alike. I believe that the quintessential PS connoisseur is no fashion victim. Style is all about individualistic choices for her. She will never be content wearing a look dictated by fashion pundits. Instead, she is keen to understand the etymology of her ensemble, and be well-informed about what she’s got on her back. Hence, we’ve decoded the various styles and terminologies associated with kurtas, lehengas, blouses and traditional trousers in this issue for you.

We’ve also packed the magazine with handy tips for all you brides-to-be — you’ll find easy yet effective ways to sport the brand for functions ranging from your mehndi to your sangeet. We also got candid with Neha Dhupia, who is a sworn supporter of the brand. She has not only broken down her favourite PS looks, but has also dished out some ace styling tips. We’ve had the privilege of dressing some of the biggest names in Bollywood such as Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Kajol, Sonakshi Sinha and more. So we got talking to the stylists behind these looks on their ongoing association with our label.

All in all, we’ve aimed to make this magazine not just about fashion, but also about having fun with fashion — after all, that’s exactly what the Payal Singhal brand stands for too.

To many more!
PAYAL SINGHAL

CONTRIBUTOR

NISHAJHANGIANI (Editor)

After a dozen plus years spent helming the fashion department of a premium Indian lifestyle monthly, Nisha chose to move away from the publishing business to explore other avenues. Nowadays, her roster is a mixed bag that includes shopping for private clients, styling campaigns, look books and editorials, curating trunk shows and conceptualising style-centric coffee table books. Her link with Payal Singhal goes back decades; personally, as well as professionally. “We can be 4 a.m. friends on the one hand and creative collaborators on a photo shoot the next. The idea for this magazine came up at one of our lazy, perpetually-lounging-on-the-terrace weekends. And a couple of months later, here we are!

PRAACHI RANIWALA (Managing Editor)

As a freelance fashion and lifestyle writer, Praachi regularly contributes to Vogue, Conde Nast Traveller, Hindustan Times Architectural Digest. She also works as a social media and content consultant for various brands, Payal Singhal included. “My association with the brand has been an ongoing one for over six months now, and it’s always exciting to work with Payal. I have been involved with PS Diary since day one, and it’s really fulfilling to see it come to life. Here’s looking ahead to the future issues!”

AYUSHI DALMIA (Art Director)

As a graphic design consultant, Ayushi is a regular contributor to publications likeConde Nast Traveller, Architectural DigestandGQ. Apart from publishing, she creates design and branding solutions for a versatile portfolio, with clients spanning retail, lifestyle and F&B industries. “PS Diaryhas been a one-of-a-kind experience for me, as it’s the first project where I’ve worked on the look from scratch. It was exciting as there was a challenge to bring something new to the table and make sure every little detail was perfect. I’m happy that the final product has lived up to the vision we started out with!
